MY CHILD IS LOCKED IN THE CAR!
WHAT DO I DO????
During this extreme summer heat, it can take only a few minutes for a person to overheat and suffer a heat stroke. The inside of your vehicle can reach temperatures of over 150 degrees in a matter of minutes!
If you accidentally lock your child in the car, DON'T PANIC! The first thing you should do is CALL 911!
Alert the dispatcher of the situation, and get officers on the way! Watch the child for ANY signs of heat stress and break a window if necessary! (just be sure to break the farthest window away from the child..... when tempered glass breaks, it can spread tiny shards of glass EVERYWHERE inside the car!)
Next, call a locksmith. Most of us in the Jackson area do not charge to unlock a vehicle with a trapped child..... so don't worry about money. Also, I, personally, would rather be ON MY WAY to help you and find out that you got them out already, then find out you tried other options for 15 minutes before calling. Time is precious, get a locksmith coming IN ADDITION TO the police! We can always turn around if you no longer need us. Nothing breaks my heart more than to see a child suffer needlessly...... and to delay calling a professional in this situation is needless.....
Next, if you are at home or near a garden hose, KEEP THE CAR WET!!! Get the spray nozzle and keep spraying the car as if you were rinsing the soap off of it after washing...... The water will help to absorb some of the sun's heat and keep the temperature somewhat lower inside the vehicle. This can buy precious time.
PLEASE!! PLEASE!! PLEASE!! Lock your car and keep the keys away from your small children! Children love to play in cars and can quickly be overcome with heat.
Again, Lockouts where children are trapped, and welfare checks on the elderly are FREE OF CHARGE!
If we are working out of the area, give us your location and we will help you contact other locksmiths that may be closer to you.
